European Union against Homophobia

A new report came out this week saying the European Union should work harder at preventing homophobia.

As it is, the European Union as a whole is not doing that bad, but there are still nine countries that do not have explicit anti-discrimination laws based on sexual orientation or gender orientation.

The report also goes on to say that so far only three countries allow same-sex partners to marry (the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain-even though most other European countries allow same-sex civil unions), and this should be a basic right available to gays in all countries.

I was happily surprised to hear about this report, because often the things the European Union worries about seem very boring and trivial, like the size of carousal horses or what can and cannot be called Vodka.

Yay European Union, for addressing some important issues for a change. And yay for Europe as a whole not doing that bad when it comes to gay rights.
